How to Get Lucky in Lotto

When you form a Lotto pool, your group is also pooling its aggregate luck. A
jackpot could happen because of the luck just one member brings to your pool.
Select your partners carefully. Share your luck with winners, not losers. Avoid
negative people. Not only are they unlucky, but they dampen enthusiasm and drain
energy from others. You want to enhance your own luck, not dilute its strength. One
quick way to tell winners from losers is simply to ask them: «Do you think you
are a lucky person?» Many people quickly admit, «I’m unlucky. I never win
anything.» They won’t bring good luck to your group either.

No one should play games of chance out of desperation because they need the
winnings. The needy have a greater fear of losing the hard-earned money they gamble
with. It is just one of life’s dirty tricks that the very fear of losing blocks the
winning forces. Thoughts are charged with energy, especially when triggered by
emotion. Fear attracts exactly that which one fears. A strong desire for a goal
that is charged with positive energy, attracts a positive response, especially when
every effort is made to attain that goal.

UK Lotto FAQ

The UK Lotto is a lottery offered in Great Britain. Players have tickets consisting of 6 numbers, and a drawing is held in which 6 numbers are drawn. If a ticket issued during that drawing cycle matches all 6 numbers, that ticket wins the jackpot.

Once all 6 numbers have been drawn, a bonus ball is drawn, which gives players who matched 5 out of 6 numbers a chance to win more money.

To play the UK Lotto, you’ll need to buy a ticket. The ticket will consist of 6 numbers from 1 to 59, and you can potentially win cash prizes depending on how many of your numbers match. An additional chance to win money is offered via the Lotto Millionaire Raffle, a code printed onto the UK Lotto Ticket.

If you win the jackpot by matching all numbers, you’ll win the jackpot, which is variable from drawing to drawing. Additionally, you can win a number of cash prizes for partial matches.

The full prize structure is:

  • Match all 6 Numbers – Jackpot
  • Match 5 Numbers + Bonus Ball – £50,000* (estimated)
  • Match 5 Numbers – £ 1,000 (estimated)
  • Match 4 Numbers – £100 (estimated)
  • Match 3 Numbers – £25 (fixed)
  • Match 2 Numbers – Free Lotto Lucky Dip (fixed)

There is not a hard number figure guaranteed for the UK Lotto starting jackpot. Usually, jackpots starting from the beginning on Wednesday are around £2 million, and jackpots beginning on Saturday are around £4 million. But the exact values are dependent on ticket sales.

Also, if a jackpot rolls over, the jackpot amount will be considerably higher.

The UK Lotto will continue to roll over if no jackpot matching ticket is sold until it hits £22 million. At this point, it can roll over one final time. On the following draw, the jackpot must be won, and if nobody matches the full six numbers, the full amount of the jackpot prize pool will go to the next winning tier.

A UK Lotto Millionaire Raffle code is randomly generated for each ticket, consisting of four letters and eight numbers. On the night of a drawing, one of the codes is drawn, and the matching code’s ticket holder wins a £1 million prize, with an additional 20 codes drawn to create 20 £20,000 winners.

Every once in a while, there will be special drawings held, with more and larger prizes awarded via the Millionaire Raffle.

The UK Lotto is open to all British citizens who wish to buy a ticket, as well as any non-UK citizen who wishes to buy a ticket through an online concierge service. The concierge service will buy your ticket and send you a scan, and then process any winnings you might be due.

More information about ordering a UK Lotto ticket online can be found on the UK Lotto official site.

Residents of the UK 16 years old and older can play the UK Lotto. If you’re outside the UK, you’ll need to be 18 years or older to play.

The UK Lotto draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday evening. Wednesday drawings are at 8 pm Greenwich Mean Time Zone, and Saturday drawings are 8:30 pm GMT.

Ticket sales for UK Lotto close at 7:30 pm GMT on the night of Wednesday or Saturday. After the drawing is completed, ticket sales for the next drawing begin.

A ticket for the UK Lotto is £2.

The odds of winning any of the various prizes in the UK Lotto are as follows:

  • Matching all 6 Numbers – 1 in 45,057,474
  • Matching 5 Numbers + Bonus Ball – 1 in 7,509,579
  • Matching 5 Numbers – 1 in 144,415
  • Matching 4 Numbers – 1 in 2,180
  • Matching 3 Numbers – 1 in 97
  • Matching 2 Numbers – 1 in 10.3

The deadline for claiming a UK Lotto prize is 180 days from the date of the drawing. After that point, any prizes not claimed are allocated to the UK National Lottery Good Causes Fund, which funds charitable projects across the UK.

For residents of the UK, UK Lotto winnings are tax free. However, if you’re not a resident of the UK, it’s possible that you will owe taxes on any UK Lotto winnings to your local government.

Consult with your local government to determine whether and how much taxes you owe on UK Lotto winnings.

The largest UK Lotto jackpot ever was a £66,070,646 jackpot, which came on a drawing held on January 9th, 2016. Two winning tickets were issued, and so two players split the jackpot, winning just over £33 million each.

A little more than one month later, on February 13th, a single ticket won £32.5 million.

Swedish Lotto FAQ

The Swedish Lotto is a lottery offered in Sweden. Players have tickets consisting of 7 numbers and a drawing is held in which 7 numbers are selected. If one of the tickets sold for that drawing matches each of the 7 numbers, that ticket wins the jackpot. Partial matches are also eligible to win prizes.

To play the Swedish Lotto, you’ll need to buy a ticket. The ticket will consist of 7 numbers from 1 to 35 and a Joker number. You can win different prizes, the individual prizes determined by how many of the numbers match up. It’s worth noting that the Swedish Lotto offers some of the best odds, even though there are 7 numbers on a ticket. This is because each number is only 1 to 35, while in most other large lotteries the number range is significantly higher.

In addition to the main lottery, the Swedish Lotto offers something called the Extra Game, a way of both winning money outright regardless of your results in the main lottery, and also a way to multiply your winnings in the main lottery.

The jackpot prize in the Swedish Lotto is variable, as the jackpot value rolls over to the next drawing if no winning ticket is issued. In addition to the overall jackpot, a number of other prizes for partial matches of numbers exist.

One thing to note is that unlike many lotteries, the lower prize values are not fixed, but instead are dependent on ticket sales. The below values are estimates.

The full prize structure is:

  • Match all 7 Numbers plus 2+ matches in Extra Game – Jackpot
  • Match 7 Numbers – €150,000* (estimated)
  • Match 6 Numbers plus Joker Number – €3,400* (estimated)
  • Match 6 Numbers – €360* (estimated)
  • Match 5 Numbers – €13* (estimated)
  • Match 4 Numbers – €2.3* (estimated)

If you choose to play the Extra Game, you’ll also select a 7 digit number. This is your Extra Game number. When the main lottery numbers are drawn, a 7 digit number will also be created.

Depending on how many exact matches your Extra Game number has with the one created by the Swedish Lotto, you can either win money outright, or else multiply your winnings from the main lottery.

A couple of examples to make things clear:

Let’s say your Extra Game number is 9753135. The Extra Game number drawn is 1743221.

You match twice, 9753135. You don’t win the main Swedish Lotto, but for getting two matches in the Extra Game you win a prize of €7.22.

Let’s say your Extra Game number is 9753135. The Extra Game number drawn is 9758135.

You match six times, 9753135. You win €111 in the main Swedish Lotto, and now you also win €22,300 from the six matches in the Extra Game. All in all, you win €22,411.

Please note that extra game matches must be in the exact same spot of the number. Having a 1 in the 5th position does you no good if a 1 is drawn in the 2nd position.

Also, you must buy the Extra Game option on your ticket to win the absolute grand prize, as this is won by matching all 7 numbers in the main Swedish Lotto and also having at least 2 matches in the Extra Game.

The Swedish Lotto doesn’t have a set number that the jackpot is guaranteed to meet or exceed.

In the even that a given jackpot rolls over, the next drawing’s jackpot will be significantly higher.

If no jackpot matching ticket is sold, the Swedish Lotto will continue to roll over. Swedish Lotto jackpots can reach into tens of millions of dollars.

The Swedish Lotto is available for any Swedish citizens who want to purchase a ticket. Additionally, anyone can buy a ticket to play the Swedish Lotto online. A number of third party sources exist for purchasing Swedish Lotto tickets.

The Swedish Lotto drawing happens twice each week, each Wednesday and Saturday evening. The Wednesday drawing is at 6:20 pm Central European Time Zone, and the Saturday drawing is at 8:00 pm CET.

A ticket for the Swedish Lotto without the Extra Game is €1.11. The Extra Game costs €1.11 extra, so a ticket to Swedish Lotto plus the Extra game is €2.22.

The odds of winning each of the possible prizes for the Swedish Lotto are as follows:

  • Match all 7 Numbers plus 2+ matches in Extra Game – 1 in 337,915,578
  • Match 7 Numbers – €150,000* 1 in 6,724,520
  • Match 6 Numbers plus Joker Number – 1 in 240,161
  • Match 6 Numbers – 1 in 40,027
  • Match 5 Numbers – 1 in 847
  • Match 4 Numbers – 1 in 59

The Swedish government does not have an income tax, so any winnings from the Swedish Lotto are not taxed at all.

International players playing Swedish Lotto through online services should check with their home country’s government to determine whether they owe their own government taxes on the winnings.

The biggest jackpot ever won in Swedish Lotto history was a jackpot win in April of 2013, which was worth about €25,000,000.

Several other large jackpots have been won:

  • €22,500,000, in 2010
  • €14,000,000, in 2011
  • €13,000,000, in 2011

How Does Swiss Lotto Work?

The Basics

Swiss Lotto utilizes a 6/42 + 1/6 format, which means you must choose six main numbers from a possible guess range of 1 to 42, plus an additional number from a guess range of 1 to 6. To win the top prize, you must match all six main numbers, as well as the additional number. There is a total of eight prize tiers, with the lowest tier requiring only three numbers matched to be won.

Meanwhile, if no one wins the main jackpot in a draw, it will simply carry over to the next drawing. Unlike some lotteries, Swiss Lotto does not have a rollover cap—which means jackpots can keep on growing until somebody wins. Even better, the smallest jackpot you can win here is a cool CHF1,500,000.

The Joker

Swiss Lotto also gives you the option to activate the Joker—a separate six-digit number that allow you to win additional prizes. It works like this: players must match at least 2 consecutive numbers—ordered left to right—to win. If you match all six digits, however, you will win a separate jackpot worth several millions.

Another additional game is the rePLAY. Unlike the Joker, the rePLAY is free and is played automatically. On every ticket, you will find a single-digit number (from a selection range of 1 to 13)—this is your rePLAY number. If you match the number drawn, then you will win a free Quick Tip entry.

The Odds of Winning

Swiss Lotto offers some favorable odds, especially when compared to mega lotteries. And, like I said before, if compared with lotteries of a similar scope, Swiss Lotto’s still impresses for the most part. Check out the quick breakdown below:

Numbers Matched Odds of Winning
6 + 1 1 in 31,474,716
6 1 in 6,294,943
5 + 1 1 in 145,716
5 1 in 29,143
4 + 1 1 in 3,331
4 1 in 666
3 + 1 1 in 220
3 1 in 44

So What Happens if You Win?

All Swiss Lotto prizes are paid out in lump sum form and, for prizes below CHF1,000,000, are tax-free. For prizes that go beyond this threshold, there is a 35% income tax deduction. Of course, if you live in another country, your local tax laws, if any, will apply as well—which means you might be facing twice the deductions.

List of Swiss Lotteries

Swiss Lotto

Marketed as Swiss Loto in the French-speaking regions, Swiss Lotto is the biggest national lottery in Switzerland. It adopts a familiar 6/42 format, with the addition of a bonus ball to lengthen the odds. Jackpots start at CHF1.5 million and rollover every draw until it’s won. There are 8 different prize tiers, comparatively good odds of winning, and two draws every week, so you have plenty of shots at taking home a prize.

To play, just pick 6 numbers from 1 to 42, and additional Lucky number from 1 to 6. If you match all numbers, you win. You can also try your luck with the free rePLAY feature or enable the Joker for more ways to win.

Swiss Lotto has draws every Wednesday and Saturday.

Rather unsurprisingly, EuroMillions is also played in Switzerland. The transnational game produces some of the biggest jackpots you’ll find in any lottery, so its popularity is undoubtedly earned.

To play, you have to choose 5 numbers from 1 to 50, plus 2 Lucky Star numbers from 1 to 12. If you match all your numbers, not only did you manage to beat 140 million to 1 odds, you also take home the massive grand prize – typically in the hundreds of millions in Euros.

There are also 12 other prize tiers to be won, and your chances of winning are actually better than in US Powerball, so you might want to check the game out if you haven’t already.

EuroMillions has draws every Tuesday and Friday.

Other Games

Aside from the first two mentioned, there are no other games that is common to both Swisslos and Loterie Romande. The two lottery operators do have unique games of their own, though.

For Swisslos, a card game called Jass is available for play online, against real players. Bingo and their line of instant win games called Clix! are other options you can go for.

Lottery Strategies to Help You Win Swiss Lotto

Lottery numbers are randomly drawn. But randomly drawn numbers form patterns
that can be tracked and used to our advantage. Having carefully analyzed all the
drawings in past lotto results of more than 200 different lotto games worldwide, with
histories going back as far as 1955, we have verified the following incredibly
simple rule:

That which is MOST POSSIBLE happens MOST OFTEN.
That which is LEAST POSSIBLE happens LEAST OFTEN.

The key to Smart Luck’s successful lotto number selection methods is playing
the probabilities. If you play a pattern that occurs only five
percent of the time, you can expect that pattern to lose 95
percent of the time, giving you no chance to win 95 percent of
the time. So, don’t buck the probabilities.

Lottery Wheels

Balanced Wheeling Systems allow you to bet a large group of numbers (more than 5), play scientific combinations of that group of numbers, and get a specific minimum win guarantee.
Balanced Wheels force all the winning numbers that are in your group to come together to give you at least one prize if some or all of the winning numbers are in your chosen group.

It’s true that the more numbers you wheel, the easier it is to trap the winning
numbers in your chosen group. But to get the most leverage for your money, the optimum
number of numbers to wheel is not more than four or five numbers over HALF the numbers
in your game. For the best way to win Swiss Lotto, wheel less than about 26 of the numbers.
Otherwise, you’ll be spending MORE money chasing a SMALLER guaranteed prize.
You benefit more by wheeling a carefully selected group of lotto numbers.

Any one wheeling
system that covers ALL the numbers in the game is too spread out, making the win
guarantee not worth the wager. There are smart ways to wheel all the numbers in
the game by using Trap-by-Overlap and other wheeling strategies covered on pages
137 to 142 in the Lottery Master Guide.

Most of Smart Luck’s lottery winners used a Balanced Wheel in addition to her Smart Luck number selection methods.
You can use a FREE interactive Balanced Wheel Lottery System that won multiple lotto jackpots.
Read about our lottery winners, too.
And when you win a jackpot with Smart Luck lotto systems, tell us about it so you can be added to Gail Howard’s growing list of lottery winners.
If you don’t want your name publicized, we will honor that.
